We are delighted to announce that Keegan has won the award for Best Director at the Toronto International Women Film Festival. Keegan is duly honoured to receive such an exciting award and is grateful to the entire team of TWDE who worked so hard to make this a great movie. Looking forward to many more accolades as this film begins its festival journey.
Years of reading scripts and breaking down characters gives Keegan a unique perspective as a director. She understands story from the inside out and is particularly deft at finding ways to tell the strongest story possible, visually and through collaboration with her actors.
One of Keegan’s greatest strengths as a director is her ability to work closely with actors - she speaks their language. She understands deeply the kind of work that actors need to do because she has done it herself in every genre and at every budget level. This allows for an unprecedented level of trust and intimacy with cast and actors love working with her.
Always keen to elevate her technical game, Keegan is constantly taking workshops and making short films as she build her portfolio. Whether it is learning the ins and outs of pre-viz or shooting in the ‘the volume’, Keegan is always working on her craft as a filmmaker.
Directing is as much about working well with one’s team as it is about story. Keegan has proven herself to be a great team leader and a director who thrives on collaborating with her crew. Seen here with 1st AD Michael Bishop on set. (Photo: Craig Minielly)
Keegan recently spent a day learning all about the astonishing capabilities of Previz technology at the amazing new Versatile Media studios in Vancouver. She and DOPS Andy Brown and Marco Bossow will be shooting their version of ‘Bushido’ in the volume in summer 2023.
It’s always an honour to stand with other directors who are boldly chasing their own films.
Keegan, along with producer Nic Altobelli, is awaiting news on the status of the film’s Canada Council Grant application.
Keegan’s pitch for her heartwarming project ’The Prince of Playland’ received a rousing ovation from the crowd at the Vancity Theatre.
A mock-up sticker for the film’s pitch package.
The Prince of Playland is a story about the power of kindness and community. It’s a story about how all of us have the potential to make someone’s dream come true...
A sweet little pitch package that was given to each of the judges. Definitely on-brand for the film!
Some video from the eye-popping recent showcase of VFX tech put on by DGCBC and ARCVFX. Truly exciting to see what amazing tech we have at our disposal as storytellers!
If you don’t have a pic with slate #1
did it even happen?
Fascinated by what’s behind the scenes that we watch - what you see and what you don’t
This woman thrives on set!
Keegan loves storytelling in general, but has a special feel for thrillers and genre - perhaps from having worked on so many over her 20+ years as an actor. For her these types of shows allow creative license to play with visuals, angles and tones to enhance the emotional feel of the show. Working with a stellar cast including Sarah Jane Redmond (above), Erin Boyes and Madison Smith was a wonderful experience - especially as Keegan loves working with the actors to help craft the best performance for all.
Keegan was thrilled to be part of the DGC training initiative that allowed her to shoot on the virtual stage. She used the experience to play with what would feel incongruous in the vastness of the desert. Inspired by this exciting technology, she’s exploring further training to explore its myriad possibilities.

Some BTS video of Keegan in action, directing a camera rehearsal on the set of her second feature length movie ‘Love Makes Scents’ (2021) One of Keegan’s favorite things about directing is its inherently collaborative nature and she loves being part of a creative team.
Love Makes Scents is a romantic comedy that brought a little Paris to the Vancouver film scene - which Keegan, who spent years there and is fluent in French, truly loved creating with her crew!
Shot during the coronavirus pandemic, this full- length feature aired in 2021 on A&E/Lifetime. A young mother awakens one morning to discover her baby daughter missing and she will stop at nothing to find her child. Starring Ali Leibert and Kirsten Robek (Reel One Entertainment)
In her first official, full-episode shadow, Keegan learned at the side of rapidly rising director Shannon Kohli, whose credits include Motherland, Supergirl and The Magicians, among others.
Chris Fisher has been extremely gracious in allowing Keegan to shadow him on multiple episodes across several seasons, including the season finales. He continues to support Keegan as she positions herself for this next phase of her career.
After 20+ years on set, Keegan recognizes the vital role that the Director of Photography plays and how important the relationship between the DOP and the director is to a successful shoot, so shadowing Jackson, with whom she worked for 6 season on Once, was a natural choice.
Extremely confident in her skills in script analysis and her innate ability to work with and speak the language of actors, Keegan continues to hone her technical skills through course work, study and further shadowing.

After twenty years of telling stories in front of the camera, Keegan has decided to continue her storytelling journey behind it for a change.
